Have an Aquatic background but are new to management? Are you a Summer student tasked with managing an outdoor community swimming pool? No Aquatic Background but now responsible for the oversight of an aquatic centre? No problem! Many General Managers, Recreation Directors & Recreation Managers find themselves suddenly responsible for an aquatic department; often resulting in fear & anxiety.
Aquatics is truly its own animal, with its own unique language and can be very overwhelming to those new to the scene. This course will look closely at the rules that govern aquatics; specific to Atlantic Canada. We will dive into risk mitigation and explore the many layers of protection a manager must create to keep their community, their teams and themselves safe as well as protected should a tragedy occur and an inquest initiated. This course will explore the many aspects of managing not only an aquatic facility but also the nuisances in managing an aquatic team. We will explore also explore the many funding opportunities available to you! Candidates will leave with many helpful resources, tools & new industry connections. Framed certificate will be provided upon successful completion of training.

Our primary goal is to start to shift the way your supervisors perceive their role & responsibilities. We strive to Empower them to be a leader among their peers. To empower them to identify issues as they arise and take action by proposing solutions. We will explore the steps to decision making and problem-solving and provide opportunities to put new skills to use through scenarios, case studies and role paly specific to aquatics. We will discuss the power of feedback and tools to motivate their team. We also recognize that supervising peers can be challenging so we spend time on the art of having difficult conversations and the importance of documentation. We will explore the rules that govern Aquatics; provide a high-level understanding of the requirements placed on their Managers to keep them, their team and community as safe as possible and their role in making this happen.
Leadership Essentials- Recreation
This course shares the same goals and learning outcomes as Leadership Essentials- Aquatics. The primary difference is all learning activities; stories, case studies, role play & more) are geared towards recreation. This course is perfect for Summer camp staff, recreation team leads & recreation groups/teams.
**Cancellation policy- You can drop out from any course 2 weeks before the start date and be refunded minus a $5 Administration fee.
