"I hired Kathryn to assist me with getting my Leadership courses up & running. She was able to help my staff reach their full potential as Leadership Instructors. I had her teach the Aquatic Supervisor Course for my staff and afterwards it felt like I had a whole new team of motivated young leaders.
Kathryn was my supervisor/mentor when I was just starting out in Aquatics, and she has played a big role in my professional growth. Now I am happy to have her as a valued colleague."
-Ahmed Abdel-Hammeid . Aquatic Coordinator . Needham & HRM Beaches
"I have taken courses from Kathryn and it has only left me with wanting to learn more from her. As a result I have apprenticed under her and have come out with so much more knowledge and confidence. She is a ray of sunshine, an absolute encyclopedia in the aquatic world. She is driven to change the world when it comes to younger women in the industry by being a positive mentor in every way possible, taking on some battles to hopefully change the standards for the future generations. She is an advocate for women supporting women and you see that through her actions. Kathryn is the bright light in the Aquatic world.
I am beyond lucky to have have learned from her and worked with her." -Danielle Cormier . Aquatic Manager . Greenwood . NS
" Kathryn- I am looking forward to all that you have to offer to Aquatic Staff in the Atlantic Provinces. You’re doing the thing, and changing lives – all while saving lives and ensuring the safety of our aquatic spaces through passion and proactive approaches to drowning prevention. Your course was delightful and informative. Though I have 20 years in the industry, I am happy to say even I had takeaways from your programming that encourage me to be better and deliver programming that not only enhances the performance of my local team, but encourages future recruits to enjoy a love for aquatics and the honor of being a part of the Lifesaving Society’s mission to prevent drowning and water related incidents for all Canadians. You are a force that we so need in our industry and I am proud to have been a part of what you have to offer! "
-Robyn Noseworthy . Community Recreation & Aquatics Coordinator 9 Wing PSP . Gander . NL
" The Shearwater Aquatics team is always uplifted by Kathryn's aquatic passion, knowledge and wealth of experience. Every opportunity I have to chat with her, I always try to learn something. Organizational improvement, situational training, and program/course improvements. If you are lucky enough to be in a room with Kathryn, take advantage of learning something new.
Kathryn is the aquatic subject matter expert that we turn to for all things aquatic."
-Matt MacKenzie . Community Recreation Coordinator . Shearwater . NS
"A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to have the chance to take the Aquatic Management course with Kathryn. Let me tell you, it was quite the experience! Kathryn really put a lot of thought into the material and presentation, making it both informative and engaging. Learning from the best in the field and having the opportunity to connect with fellow participants was truly invaluable. Additionally, being around Kathryn is always a delight. Her contagious energy and captivating presentation style keep you thoroughly entertained. Trust me, if you decide to go for it, you won't be disappointed!"
-Neiley Levy . Aquatic Coordinator . Shearwater . NS
"This was, hands down, the best training opportunity that I have been part of since beginning my management role of an outdoor seasonal pool. Understanding aquatics, especially when you don’t come from an Aquatics background, is complex, complicated, and like learning another language . With this course though, I now have the understanding and confidence to add layers of safety around our facility and staff. This course should be mandatory for all pool managers and decision makers, especially if they don’t come up through the aquatic system." - Kathy Johnston, Manager of Recreation & Community Engagement, West Hants NS
“As someone who has taken and administered a plethora of courses, I feel that taking my national lifeguard instructor with Kathryn stands out as an exceptionally educational experience where I felt constantly welcome and encouraged throughout. You don’t need to know Kathryn for long, to realize that she is an incredibly knowledgeable trainer and mentor. This is apparent in the dynamic way her courses are crafted and the subtle details presented alongside the content. In our 20-hour course, Kathryn quickly created an environment where we were able to express our ideas and correct our bad habits, inspiring us to stay true to ourselves as individuals when we teach. I have no doubt that this course will generate many more phenomenal aquatic leaders.” - Nathan Regular
"Working with Extra Mile Leadership- Training & Consulting, in particular with Kathryn, has been a wonderful learning experience for Happy Dolphins Dr. Kathryn trained over 30 youth from the north shore in lifeguarding and swimming during two visits. She showed dedication, extensive know-how, and willingness to take the extra effort so that those needing a little help could perfect their skills. The Extra Mile Leadership team is responsible while flexible, even when coming to a foreign country, where they will always be welcome!" - Patricia Hiraldo, Founder/Director of Happy Dolphins
"Completing Supervisor Training run by Kathryn MacPhee allowed myself and my fellow supervisors to gain new leadership skills and empowered us to think differently. Not only were we encouraged to rethink old and outdated ways of doings things such as pool rules, guarding positions and procedures, but we were also enabled to re-invent our work environment to make it a more positive and inclusive workplace. She empowered us to have a say in the way things were run and gave us an avenue for our voices to be heard. The skills I have learned, I have taken with me and I have gone on to utilize them in my administrative role as head of aquatics and in my daily life as well." — Abbie McDonough, Head of Aquatics Waegwoltic Club
" As a trainer and mentor, Kathryn deserves an infinite amount of praise. From her thoughtfulness, to her preparation, to her attention to detail, Kathryn provides a beneficial and insightful mentorship. During my time as an apprentice with Kathryn, one of the very first things Kathryn said to me is that I would be an equal instructor, rather than an apprentice. From this moment on I felt as though my role in this course was valued and appreciated. Working with Kathryn will provide anyone with an extremely comprehensive experience of a course and the readiness to teach by oneself. Kathryn is an extremely professional, knowledgeable, and kind-hearted person who makes an exceptional mentor for any candidate looking to apprentice on a course. — Olivia Ellsworth (she/her), 2nd year student in a BA-ENGL-H at the University of King’s College
"I have had the privilege of working with Kathryn on the Lifesaving Society Canada Training Program Commission. During the 2019-2021 National Lifeguard program revision, Kathryn represented the Nova Scotia Branch in a thoughtful and professional manner; and made valuable contributions to the team thanks to her extensive background in lifeguarding, instructing and examining. Collaborators like Kathryn play a vital role in improving and maintaining the safety and quality of our lifeguard training programs."— Wendy Schultenkamper, Director of Operations, Lifesaving Society Canada
"I am so happy I enrolled in the Aquatics Management course.
Kathryn's course material was not only relevant but also comprehensive. Her teaching style is not only relatable but also immensely practical. We had the opportunity to hear from dynamic speakers in the industry, and Kathryn’s wealth of knowledge in Aquatics was terrific. My only regret is that we couldn't have had more time under her guidance.
One of the standout aspects of the course was the unique opportunity to connect with peers in similar roles across the Maritimes. Leaving the course, I now have a stronger network of peers whom I can lean on for advice and support. The experience has not only enhanced my professional knowledge but has also provided a lasting community of like-minded individuals.
I highly recommend this course to anyone seeking to broaden their expertise in aquatics management."
-Heather Reinsborough . Recreation Coordinator-Aquatics . Riverview . NB
Kathryn is such an amazing person, not only in a work setting, as a mentor but as a human! She has done incredible work in and out our province of NS, helping to push the Lifesaving Society’s mission, vision and values across boarders! She is an inspiration to young women like myself with her positivity and motivation! I’m always excited to see her next move in her growing business and learn more from her in the future!
-Michaela Hooper . Aquatic Supervisor . Spryfield Wave Pool . Nova Scotia
I have had the pleasure of taking both Kathryn's Aquatic Management course as well as the National Lifesaving Instructor course. As a participant I truly enjoyed her energetic personality, outstanding knowledge and fun activities (as well as the fidget toys!). As an Aquatics Director I love having Kathryn come to our facility, she has taught both a LSI and NLI course at CHP and always leaves me feeling confident in her students. I would recommend to everyone to take her courses or put one on at your facility.
